I've just completed a migration from 123Reg to IONOS.
This was for a number of reasons, that also then caused me to question why even have a website.
My original websites were with TSOHost, a solution that worked fine for 14 years. This was then taken over by 123Reg, and even simple blog sites required SSL certificates. Then prices went up, and so I started looking for something cheaper - enter IONOS. This migration hasn't been without it's hiccups, mainly driven from me lacking skills within the web domain, and IONOS making Wordpress sites a cost option (although I did find a free solution, but I couldn't find it again).
I maintain my LinkedIn page, but I'm not hugely active on either Github or Bluesky. I post things in two guises, both my actual name and what grew out of my gamer tag. But back to why have a website.
The main reason, and this might be me being old-fashioned, is that I think an online presence is important. Especially when being active in the job market. I think that potential employers will search for you and will form a picture of you that extends beyond your CV.
